Hundreds of soldiers on Thursday morning invaded Abonnema town of Rivers State, killing several persons, breaking into homes and abducting several PDP leaders in the area.
It was gathered that the soldiers in company of APC officials arrived Abonnema by 11pm on Wednesday, before they were led by the APC chieftains to point out the homes of the PDP leaders for the invasion.
Sources in Abonnema, Akuku-Toru Local Government Area said that soldiers shot sporadically.
Residents of the town are counting their losses. On Thursday, the people of Abonnema in their hundreds protested the killing and invasion of the town.
In an interview, Former Minister of Sports, Dr Tammy Danagogo said that the invasion was politically motivated and aimed at evacuating the town for the purpose of rigging the forthcoming rerun elections on March 19.
He said that the Military invasion was targeted at PDP members, with several of them arrested.
He alleged that the APC leaders seen directing the soldiers to the home of the PDP.
