Earlier today, President Muhammadu Buhari, through his official spokesperson (Femi Adesina), released a Christmas message in which he segregated Nigeria into two groups – the real Nigerians and the ‘wailing wailers’.

One would have thought that this season is a good opportunity for Buhari to foster national oneness by behaving as president of all, but he has, by this message, toed his familiar path of partisanship and disunity.

This is the most divisive and thoughtless message that any leader can send out to his fellow countrymen and women in a period like this.

I think that Buhari is sending out a strong signal that he does not want the continued existence of one Nigeria.
