Spirit And Life Devotional: Vengeance Is Not Yours

Must read

[pull_quote_center]”Then he said to David: ‘You are  more righteous than I; for you have rewarded me with good, whereas I have rewarded you with evil.” Samuel 24:17 NKJV[/pull_quote_center]

People offend us, even the ones we love. Sometimes it’s unbearable and we want to get even. But the truth is that getting even is not your responsibility.

Imagine Jesus on the cross, being crucified by the very people He healed and provided for; He was being crucified with criminals by His own countrymen, yet He said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do.” How about Stephen; being stoned to death, after being set up; kneeling down and crying out with a loud voice, “Lord, do not charge them with this sin.” That’s the appropriate reaction of a true Christian heart.

Romans 12:14, 17, 19-21 says, “Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. Repay no one evil for evil. Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written, ‘Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,’ says the Lord. Therefore ‘If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him a drink; for in so doing you will heap coals of fire on his head.’ Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.”
