A man suspected to be a commander of Islamist terrorist group, Boko Haram has joined social media platform, Facebook.
The bearded man, whose registered his name as “Ba’ana Badar Maiduguri” also availed that he is from Maiduguri, the troubled capital of Borno State and attended Islamic High School from Sunday, September 14, 1997 to Monday, July 7, 2003, before proceeding to the Ado Bayero University, Kano to study Economics between 2005 and 2009.
Counter terrorism experts who spoke with The Trent, believe that the suspected terrorist joined Facebook so as to recruit members online.
Ba’ana Badar Maiduguri joined Facebook on Wednesday, September 9, 2015 and as at the time of the report has 95 friends. Some of his friends reveal through their Facebook profiles to be Sheriff Banki, a senior legislative aide in the National Assembly, Alhaji Abba Tar, a staff of the Borno State Government, Mala Zanna, a major in the Nigerian Army, Chibu Alhaji Mustapha, a staff of Bama Local Government Council in Borno State, and several person who identify of teachers. Some of his Facebook friends display profile photos that suggest links with Boko Haram.
He has also uploaded two pictures: one uploaded by 1:39pm on September 9 showed pictures of anti-aircraft machine guns with the Boko Haram emblem, while the other which was uploaded by 1:56 pm of the same day showed the suspected terrorist brandishing an AK-47 assault rifle.
