Traditional Healer’s Wife Cries Out Over Killing of 5-Year-Old Son, Shooting of Husband in Imo

Must read

OWERRI, Nigeria – In a harrowing plea for justice, Jennifer Johnson, the pregnant wife of Bright Johnson, a traditional healer from Obolo, Mbano in Imo State, has alleged the extrajudicial killing of her 5-year-old son and the abduction and shooting of her husband by armed men led by the youth president of the community, Amaze Chibuke, popularly known as Jaguar.

Allegations of Murder and Abduction

Mrs Johnson claims that on December 26, 2024, Jaguar and five armed men stormed their home, accusing her husband of involvement in a kidnapping.

The group allegedly shot her husband in the leg, her brother-in-law in the back, and fatally shot her son in the head.

“My husband was shot in the leg and taken away to an undisclosed location for the last four days,” Mrs. Johnson said.

“His junior brother was shot in the back, and my 5-year-old son was shot dead.”

Mrs. Johnson said the incident followed a series of escalating threats and false accusations against her husband, who had earlier reported an attempted kidnapping to the police.

The Genesis of the Conflict

The crisis began on November 9, 2024, when unidentified men allegedly tried to abduct Mrs. Johnson and her son.

She recounted how she and another man, who was tied up, were ordered into a vehicle by masked individuals.

“When I entered, I noticed there was a man already in the vehicle tied like a suspect. They were being chased by eyewitnesses, and they eventually let us go,” she said.

Mrs Johnson said her husband reported the attempted abduction to the police, but the situation spiralled when the tied man allegedly implicated her husband under duress.

Accusations of Impunity

According to Mrs. Johnson, Jaguar has used his position as youth president of Obolo to intimidate her family, leveraging a personal land dispute with her husband to fabricate allegations.

“My husband was accused of being involved in my own attempted kidnapping and the abduction of a Reverend Father in Owerri. The man they forced to implicate my husband was detained in a self-styled prison built by Jaguar,” she alleged.

Attempts to resolve the matter through legal and police intervention were reportedly frustrated.

Mrs. Johnson accused Jaguar of bribing her husband’s lawyer and pressuring the police to drop investigations.

Call for Intervention

Mrs. Johnson, who is several months pregnant, appealed to the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) to intervene.

“I am calling on the DSS DG and the Police IG to save my husband. Jaguar has killed my son, and I don’t want to lose my husband too. We don’t even know if he is alive,” she said tearfully.

“Jaguar has taken everything from me,” she said. “All I ask is for justice and the safety of my husband.”

Mrs. Johnson said the family has been denied access to her husband, who Jaguar claims is in DSS custody in Owerri.

Community Outcry

The incident has sparked outrage among family members and kinsmen, who have called for a thorough investigation into the actions of Jaguar and the armed group.

“We demand justice for Bright Johnson, his son, and his family,” said a family spokesperson.

“The authorities must investigate these claims and hold those responsible accountable.”

As of now, the DSS and police have not released any official statements regarding the allegations or the whereabouts of Bright Johnson.

The case highlights the growing concerns over vigilante justice and abuse of power in local communities.
