Widow of late Gom Mama, Alhaji Zubairu Adamu, a traditional ruler in Nasarawa State, who was allegedly murdered on February 15, hid empty bottle of the poison she used in a sanitary pad.
The state Commissioner of Police, Idris Ibrahim, told newsmen yesterday that police have concluded investigation into the matter and have charged five suspects, including the widow, Hajiya Amina and her daughter to court. “We found the bottle of the poison inside a sanitary pad she threw into the suck-away (septic tank),” Ibrahim said.
Widow of the late traditional ruler and her daughter, as well as three other suspects including the deceased’s driver were arrested in March, and later transferred to the headquarters of Zone IV command in Makurdi, Benue State.
Alhaji Zubairu Adamu was found dead on February 15, the day he was billed to take a second wife. He died on the morning of the wedding in his Gom Mama palace in Farin-Ruwa area of Wamba Local Government Area, it was gathered.
Daily Trust gathered that on the day he died, his first son asked a family friend, the Oriye of Rindre, Alhaji Musa Nagogo, to inspect the corpse before burial. It was further gathered that Alhaji Musa, on seeing that the deceased’s mouth formed, instructed that the body be taken to Jos Teaching Hospital (JUTH) for autopsy, where it was discovered that he was poisoned.
The police commissioner said forensic test carried out as part of the investigation proved that the deceased was injected with a poison and later strangled to death.
He said “water-tight” forensic investigation into the matter revealed that he was murdered and that the wife of the traditional ruler, her daughter, driver and friend had links to the crime.
