YENAGOA, Nigeria – The Bayelsa State capital city of Yenagoa has been thrown into panic after a married man and father of twelve children was found dead under mysterious circumstances in a brothel on Tombia-Amossoma Road.
The deceased, approximately 40 years old and originally from Delta State, was discovered in a compromised state on Tuesday, May 7, 2024.
According to reports from the scene, the man had left his home around 8 am to visit the brothel.
Details of what transpired during his visit remain unclear, but his lifeless body was found naked in one of the rooms later that day.
Following the discovery, all commercial sex workers present in the establishment reportedly fled the scene.
The brothel, known to be a contentious site, had been previously raided and designated as a red zone by security operatives.
The Commander of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN) in Bayelsa State, Tolumobofa Jonathan, confirmed the identity of the deceased as a resident of Delta State and noted his family status and health issues.
“He was suffering from a partial stroke before his unfortunate demise,” Jonathan stated at the scene.
Local residents and authorities are now trying to piece together the events leading to the man’s death.
The area was abuzz as community members and officials gathered to discuss the incident and its implications on the neighbourhood’s security and reputation.
Police spokesperson in Bayelsa, ASP Musa Muhammed, indicated that efforts were underway to gather more precise details from the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) overseeing that area.
“We are deeply concerned about this incident and are committed to uncovering the full story. Our team is working to determine the exact circumstances that led to this tragic outcome,” Muhammed commented.
As the investigation continues, the community remains in shock, grappling with the implications of the incident for the family of the deceased.
