A 22-year-old unemployed man, Stanley Amoebi, was on Friday, June 5, 2015 charged before a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing a pack of coke soft drink worth N1,000 in Lagos State.

According to the prosecutor, Insp. Innocent Uko, Amoebi committed the offence around 6pm on Monday, June 1, 2015 at Ajara Shopping Complex in Badagry.

Uko noted that the accused whose residence was not disclosed stole a pack of coke from the shop of the complainant, Mrs Senami Hungbo.

Uko said, “He went to the woman’s shop to buy a pack of coke, but while the woman was looking for change for him, he quickly disappeared with another pack.

“The woman pursued him and with the help of people, he was apprehended.’’

The offence according to the prosecutor was a breach on the dictates of Section 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The attorney of the accused, Mr Yemi Fowler, pleaded with the court to grant him bail on liberal terms.

While delivering his verdict, the Magistrate, Mr Abiodun Etti, granted the accused bail in the sum of N20,000 and a surety, who must provide evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

The case was adjourned for further hearing until Friday, July 3, 2015.
