UPDATE On Damaturu Blast: 10-Year Old Girl Detonated Bomb, 7 Confirmed Dead

Information reaching The Trent has it that the bomb blast which was recorded in Damaturu, the Yobe State capital was carried out by a 10-year old girl.

Abdullahi Sallah, a trader in the commercial and administrative capital of the North-Eastern State who spoke with our correspondent revealed that the girl was among a number of people stopped for a routine search at the Damaturu Central Motor Park, considering the security situation in the area.

Sallah further availed that the girl refused to submit herself for a search when it was her turn, and when the security operatives insisted, she detonated the explosive device already strapped on her, which is said to have killed 7 and injured 26 others.

All casualties were rushed to the Sani Abacha General Hospital, Damaturu where Medical Director, Dr. Garba Fika availed thus: ”We received a total of 33 victims of bomb blast that occurred an hour ago; all of them sustained various degree of injuries, out of which seven are dead, while seven are under a very critical condition.

”We might refer those under critical condition to the Federal Medical Centre, Nguru and Federal Medical Centre Azare in Bauchi State respectively.

”Already, the Yobe State government had signed a Memorandum of Understanding with these health institutions, in case of emergency of this nature.”
