As the tension in Ekiti State thickens over a plot by All Progressives Congress (APC) legislators to impeach Governor Ayo Fayose, reports say one person has been shot dead as residents trooped out in their numbers to protest the impeachment attempt.

According to the special assistant on new media to Governor Fayose, Lere Olayinka, the unlucky person was identified as Modupe Olaiya, who was killed at Efon-Alaaye when thugs and armed security operatives in the bus conveying the APC lawmakers to Ado-Ekiti opened fire on the protesters.

The lawmakers were said to be arriving Ado-Ekiti from Osogbo, the Osun State capital, where they have been convening.

According to sources, a member of the House of Assembly, Gabriel Ogundele fired the fatal shot that killed Olaiya, before their convoy was blocked by youths and military personnel, who ordered them to return to Osogbo at Ita-Awure.
