MIDDLETOWN, USA – A Pennsylvania woman has admitted to fabricating a story about an attempted rape and kidnapping that led to an innocent man spending 31 days in jail, prosecutors announced.
Anjela Borisova Urumova, 20, pleaded guilty on Thursday, January 16, 2025, to seven misdemeanour charges, including false reports, tampering with evidence, and fabricating physical evidence, according to the Bucks County District Attorney’s Office.

Urumova claimed that Daniel Pierson, 41, had attacked her on April 16, 2024, in the parking lot of a Redner’s supermarket in Middletown Township, Pennsylvania.
She alleged that Pierson pulled down her pants and struck her in the face, presenting a visible lip injury to corroborate her story.
Authorities acted on her accusations, arresting Pierson and charging him with multiple felonies. He spent over a month in jail before investigators uncovered inconsistencies in Urumova’s account.
Unravelling the Lie
Middletown Township Police and the Bucks County District Attorney’s Office conducted a thorough review of surveillance footage and data from Urumova’s cellphone.
Investigators found discrepancies that contradicted her claims.
When confronted with the evidence, Urumova admitted to fabricating the story. She revealed that her injury was not caused by Pierson but by her grandmother, who suffers from dementia.
According to the criminal complaint, her grandmother had thrown a plastic object at her, resulting in the lip injury.
Urumova also confessed to specifically targeting Pierson because she had seen him and his vehicle in the past and found him “creepy.”
She provided police with a detailed description of his dark blue Ford F-150, which included a “thin blue line” sticker and visible rust, adding credibility to her false report.
Pierson’s Ordeal
Pierson spent 31 days in jail before authorities determined his innocence and dropped the charges against him.
The wrongful arrest has raised concerns about the devastating consequences of false accusations on individuals and the justice system.
Urumova’s guilty plea includes charges of making false reports, tampering with physical evidence, and fabricating evidence.
Common Pleas Judge Stephen Corr has deferred her sentencing to allow for a presentence investigation.
The district attorney’s office has condemned her actions, stating, “This case is a stark reminder of the damage false accusations can inflict on innocent people and the justice system.”
