It isn’t uncommon to embellish the truth or make up a white lie here or there in relationships, but one woman’s bending of the truth took things to a whole new level.
A waitress — identified only as Tina — convinced a man whom she’d dated for nine months that she was deaf, and kept up the act for the entirety of their relationship.
Featured on My Crazy Love, a new series debuting Oct 28 on Oxygen, Tina explained it all started when a fisherman she met at a bar started talking to her and she was so shocked at the attractive man’s interest in her, that she went into a blind panic and told him she was deaf.
“I was frozen,” she explained. “I don’t know why, but I look at the guy and say “I’m deaf.’”
The guy, whose name turned out to be Chris, then turned around to his friends and exclaimed “This deaf chick is hot!”
The next day, he messaged her and the two started a romance in which they communicated only by texts and body language.
Tina elaborated on some of the challenges of keeping up the charade, “If a door slams, you’ve got to not look. “If a dog barks, you have to be really careful not to look or anything. Cross the street and you have to pretend you can’t hear the horn honking at you.”
You can check out her story on My Crazy Love which airs at 10/9 pm central and in the reenactment clip above.
