Yobe Local Gov’t Election Postponed As COVID-19 Cases Rise

Must read

The Yobe State Independent Electoral Commission, YOSIEC, has postponed the earlier scheduled December 5th, 2020 local government councils election.

Mamman Mohammed, the Executive Chairman of the Commission, while announcing the development on Thursday, September 24, 2020, in Damaturu cited the resurgence of COVID-19 cases in the state as the reasons for the shift in the election date.

The Chairman said the new date for the LGAs election is now 27th of February, 2021.

“A new date scheduled for the elections activities is being reviewed and will be released very soon. It will provide enough time for the primaries and other election requirements for qualification of candidates,” Mohammed said.

Umar Mohammed Kukuri, the chairman, Yobe State Inter-party Advisory Council, IPAC, said the council will make its position known with regards to the postponement after consulting its members.
