The involvement of top Nollywood stars in politics is becoming quite interesting as Bob-Manuel Udokwu and Tony Muonagor also known as “Tony One week”, declared their political ambitions to vie for representatives of the Idemili North Constituency made up of 10 towns in the Anambra State House of Assembly election billed for 2015.
This development was made known by Udokwu during a press briefing in Abuja on Thursday, October 23, 2014.
According to him, he was bent on taking over from Tony One Week who is presently occupying the seat in order to “contribute his quota to national development”
He said, “Tony-One-Week is actually on the seat that I am vying for; he is from the same Idemili North Constituency. ‘He is there as an incumbent under the All Progressives Congress (APC), while I am contesting under the platform of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).”
While speaking on why he started his political ambition at the state level, Udokwu said, “I didn’t want to jump to the federal level and vie for House of Representatives seat because I always believe in humble beginnings. I would have vied for Local Government Chairman’s seat but that election was held last year and I wasn’t prepared for it.
“But I know that my modest beginning in political landscape will be from the State House of Assembly and I want to be part of decision making in my state”.
“I happened to be among the pioneers of Nollywood out of nothing and it later became a world renowned multi-billion naira industry. Today, I feel that it’s high time I also contributed to the political process or decision making in my own little way.
“Posterity will judge me fairly that I took action than not taking any at all or sit on my backside and complain”, Udokwu added.
