The 2026 Emmys Blue Carpet Made Restraint Look Dramatic: See What the Stars Wore (PHOTOS)

LOS ANGELES, United States — Television’s stars opened awards season at the Peacock Theater on Monday, September 14, 2026. On the Emmys’ blue carpet, sculptural silhouettes, tactile fabrics, and restrained colours largely took precedence over provocation.

The 78th Primetime Emmy Awards offered no single forecast for the red carpets leading to the Oscars. Instead, several distinct ideas emerged, including gold metallics, asymmetric construction, fringe, leather, and black eveningwear shaped by unusual proportions.

Gold Takes Two Forms

Megan Stalter delivered the evening’s most literal fashion statement, arriving dressed as an Emmy statuette. The “Hacks” actress turned the award itself into a costume, standing apart from an otherwise measured field of gowns and tailoring.

Selena Gomez approached the same colour with greater formality. Her glittering chainmail gown by Louis Vuitton used its metallic surface to create movement and light without elaborate ornamentation.

Together, the two appearances demonstrated markedly different uses of gold: one playful and theatrical, the other fashioned for conventional evening glamour.

Black Gains Texture and Movement

Some of the evening’s strongest contrasts came from clothes presented entirely in black.

Odessa A’zion wore a skirt suit finished with fringe, combining the structure of tailoring with movement along the lower half of the outfit.

Keri Russell chose a floor-length leather gown by Khaite. Its impact came from the material’s sheen and weight, allowing the fabric, rather than colour or embellishment, to define the look.

Both outfits showed how designers and stylists used surface and silhouette to distinguish black ensembles on the blue carpet.

Asymmetry Shapes the Evening

One-shouldered and deliberately uneven constructions appeared in several forms.

Lukita Maxwell wore a voluminous champagne gown by Louis Vuitton, supported by a thick, gathered taffeta strap. The concentrated fabric at one shoulder balanced the dress’s expansive shape.

Quinta Brunson’s Christian Cowan gown created the appearance of fabric sitting precariously across the body. Nude tulle secured the dress while preserving its deliberately off-centre line.

Kristen Bell offered a softer variation through a delicate cape by Alberta Ferretti, while Cynthia Nixon wore a sculptural Issey Miyake design. Neither outfit followed a conventional one-shouldered pattern, but both used asymmetry to shape the body and redirect attention across the garment.

The Emmys did not establish a dominant look for the months ahead. Its recurring fashion elements, however, were clear: metallic surfaces, engineered draping, tactile black fabrics, and silhouettes built around imbalance rather than excess.
