3 Kidnappers Killed, Others Arrested Following Gun Battle With Police In Anambra (PHOTOS)

No fewer than 3 persons have been left dead and others arrested following a shoot out between six suspected kidnappers and Anambra State Police Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS at Okpoko in Ogbaru local government area on Sunday, November 9, 2014.

A woman identified as Mrs. Edith Maduekwe, who had been in the hostage of the kidnappers since October 4, 2014 was rescued in the process.

It was learnt that her family already paid a ransom of N1.4 million as demanded by the kidnappers.

According to reports, Mrs. Maduekwe, who was kidnapped by the suspects on October 4, at Oba in Idemili South LGA, was rescued at an erosion site in Oraukwu in Idemili North local government area of the state.
Some items were recovered after the encounter including, N776, 000, one AK-47 rifle with 90 rounds of ammunition one pump action gun and 10 live cartridges, assorted charms and other weapons.
During a parade of the nabbed kidnappers on Sunday, November 9, 2014 Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Uche Ezeh said the leader of the gang, Charlie Parker has been on the wanted list of the Police for 4 years.
He added that the arrest was made following a tip-off which prompted the SARS commander of Anambra state, Mr. James Nwafor, a Chief Superintendent of Police, CSP, to take his men to the scene at Okpoko, where the suspects were sharing the money.
It was learnt that on sighting the police officials, the suspects opened fire while the police officials were unrelenting and fired back and killed about three of the gang members.
