About five members of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, had reportedly died following a boat mishap at about 5pm on Saturday, November 1, 2014, in Ekeremor Local Government area of Bayelsa.
A former Deputy Governor of the state, Chief Peremobowei Ebebi, and six others were reportedly rescued by local divers and passengers of oncoming boats which stopped to assist the victims.
It was gathered that the deceased members were returning to Yenagoa, the Bayelsa state capital after the Ward congresses conducted across the state on Saturday, November 1, 2014.
While three corpses, out of the five people alleged to have died from the incident have been recovered, the search for the remaining bodies is said to be ongoing.
When contacted, the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Lawrence Eboka, claimed to know nothing about the incident as he was on special duty at President, Goodluck Jonathan’s home.
