Akwa Ibom Gov’t To Create 10, 000 Jobs

NAN – The Akwa Ibom Government plans to create 10,000 jobs under the state’s Enterprise and Employment Scheme.

Mr Ufot Ebong, Senior Special Adviser to the Governor on Technical Matters and Due Process stated this on Tuesday in Uyo while briefing journalists.

He said that the scheme was designed to reduce youths unemployment in the state by 50 per cent in five years.

Ebong said the jobs initiated under the Akwa Ibom Enterprise and Employment Scheme would be completed within the first quarter of 2016.

He said that the scheme was designed to empower local businesses that could employ youths to earn a wage while undergoing practical enterprise skills development.

Ebong stated that the objective was to develop youth entrepreneurs through a set of franchise schemes; and provide world-class vocational skills training.

“Ultimately, our vision is to establish Akwa Ibom as an enabling state, where anyone regardless of their economic background can generate an idea, start and grow their business as easily as possible,” he said.

According to him, the scheme will create the enabling structures needed for the youths to easily set up and grow their business, thereby creating more job opportunities in the state.

“For unbiased recruitment and easy for any prospective applicant, the state government has set up an online registration platform and registration desks all over the 31 local government headquarters of the state.”
