A 36-year-old woman has shot her 17-year-old daughter dead after she discovered that she was 3 months pregnant during a visit to neighbours.
Emine A., proceeded to the house where she brought out a gun and went back to the neighbours where she shot her daughter, Meryem five times.
The deceased who worked as a cashier in a market was rushed to a hospital by some bystanders outside the apartment block in the Selcuk district of the southern city of Nigde in Turkey, but unfortunately gave up the ghost before they arrived.
According to reports, the mother was detained by police but then had a nervous collapse and was hospitalised even though the investigation is continuing.
Turkish authorities acknowledge there is a grave problem of violence against women in the country, although the vast majority of cases involving attacks perpetrated by men.
Records by a non-governmental platform to Stop Violence Against Women has revealed that 286 women were murdered in Turkey in 2014 and 134 so far in 2015.
