Bleak Christmas: APC Secretariat Workers Groan Over Non-Payment Of Salary

Must read

The yuletide celebration promises to be gloomy for staff of the National Secretariat of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the party closed for official business for the year 2015 on Tuesday, December 22, 2015 without paying workers salaries for December.

According to a staff who spoke anonymously to Punch, “as I am speaking to you, we have not been paid for December, none of us was given one grain of rice. It is that bad.”

Although no official reason has been given for the non-payment of salaries, it was gathered that it was because of the economic downturn in the country and it was also alleged that the “traditional financiers” of the party had abandoned the party.

Another staff who made his disappointment known said he could not believe that a party that campaigned on a welfare-based platform would ignore the plight of its workers just seven months after taking office.

He said: “What do you think people will say? Who will believe I have not been paid my salary? We are no longer the opposition party. What do we have to show for our sacrifices for this party? It is not fair.”

Attempts to get an offical response proved abortive as calls to the mobile telephone of the National Chairman of the party, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun and National Secretary, Mai Mala Buni were not answered.
