Following the spate of bomb attacks that have rocked the country, authorities of Cameroon have on Thursday, July 16, 2015 announced a ban on the use of full-face Islamic veils including the burqa in the Far North region of the country.

The latest attack occurred on Sunday, July 12, 2015 as two female suicide bombers clad in the Islamic regalia killed about 13 persons after they blew up themselves in the Fotokol region of the country.

The governor of the mainly Muslim region said the measure was to prevent further attacks, Reuters reports.

Bakari added, “We are also systematically checking all vehicles, and controlling all luggage and the population should collaborate because there is a serious security threat to our nation.”

The wearing of the full-face veil has not been banned in other provinces of the country.
