War Against Terrorism: US Inspired Nigerian Soldiers To Rebel Against Authority?

Must read

The unfriendly banter between Nigeria and the United States over the sincerity of the American military in helping Nigeria fight insurgency got even worse during the course of the week as a top Nigerian intelligence source revealed to Punch that it was the US trainers assisting the in the war on terror that incited Nigerian soldiers to to mutiny.

The unnamed source said the mutiny was as a result of the negative teachings the US trainers passed unto them, adding that it was a major reason the Federal Government had stopped the US from training Nigerian soldiers further on counter-terrorism.

He said: “Our investigations show that some of the soldiers that were involved in mutiny received training in the US. These trainings often highlight negative things about the Federal Government.

“Another thing Nigerians should note is that since the Americans came here purportedly to help get the Chibok girls, they have not done anything. What have they done with all their technology and might? Is it not suspicious?”

The source further stated that the US, UK, France and China had pledged to help Nigeria with human and technical resources but refused to live up to its creed as the US refused to sell military hardware in order to prosecute the fight against Boko Haram, especially cobra helicopters. He also enthused that the US had not helped Nigeria with the necessary intelligence needed to curb the activities of insurgents.

Reacting to the allegation, the Press Attache of the US Embassy in Abuja, Sean J. McIntosh said the allegations held no water.

She said: “The allegations are baseless. The third phase of training did not occur because the Nigerian Army failed to provide the necessary equipment for the training.”
