A little boy of five years old who was believed to have witnessed the death of his mother had been discovered watching over her corpse after shaking her effortlessly to see if she would wake up in Idowu Taylor Street, Victoria Island, Lagos state.
The tear provoking discovery which shocked the residents in the area happened in the early hours of Monday, January 19, 2015.
The deceased who people alleged that she was a prostitute was stabbed to death by some unknown gunmen who subsequently dumped her body near the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Injuries from the stab were visible on her left hand armpit and her back.
According to New Telegraph reports, it is believed that the boy might have witnessed his mother’s killing. The residents’ efforts to get information from the boy were abortive.
The little boy whose identity was not known was said to have cried uncontrollably and hung onto his late mother’s corpse when some police officials from Bar Beach Police Station tried to remove the body.
One of the residents who identified himself simply as John, said the woman was an easy going person.
He said, “I saw her last on Sunday. She came to my saloon with her little boy to give him haircut. I was shocked to hear of her death this morning (Monday). I heard that unknown assailants killed her in the night. People said she was a prostitute, but I do not know if that was true. I only know that she used to come out only at night.”
The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Kenneth Nwosu, who confirmed the murder, said investigation was ongoing into the death of the woman identified simply as Joy.
Nwosu said. “We are investigating the cause of her death. We are also conducting autopsy on her because when our men visited the scene, blood was coming out of her ear and nose.”
