Members of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria,CBCN, have kicked against calls advocating a mass abortion for some of the pregnant women rescued from the captivity of the Boko Haram insurgents.
The Chairman, Health Committee of the CBCN, Most Reverend Anselm Umoren, made this known during a press conference in Abuja on Monday, May 25, 2015.
The cleric noted that the life of every baby was different from that of the parents, adding that aborting such children amounted to visiting the innocent unborn children with the sin of the terrorists, who impregnated the women.
According to Channels, Reverend Umoren added that the trauma of sexual assault and rape was enormous and that the Catholic Church in Nigeria was prepared to provide some measures of support to accelerate the healing, rehabilitation and resettlement of the victims, for them to be reintegrated into the society.
It would be recalled that a handful of women have been rescued from the captivity of the insurgents loyal to Boko Haram Islamist sect in Borno.
Reports later emerged that most of the women were found to be pregnant following some medical checks.
The troops have been making great and fruitful efforts in recent times to reclaim territories already colonized by the insurgents especially in the northern part of the country.
