Dep. Speaker Lasun Says He won’t Resign For Gbajabiamila

Honourable Yusuf Lasun, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives on Tuesday, June 16, 2015 stated that he would not resign for Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila having been having been elected duly by members to occupy the position.

While speaking in Abuja amid speculations that he came under pressure from some forces in the All Progressives Congress in the South-West, urging him to resign and pave way for a Mr. Gbajabiamila, a former Minority Leader of the House.

Be it as it may, Lasun while granting an interview to journalists at the National Assembly as he was stepping out of a committee room, said “That is a speculation; why will i resign?

“I went through an election on the mandate of the Speaker (Mr. Yakubu Dogara),” Lasun stated.

It would be recalled that Lasun, who is an origin of Osun State polled 203 votes as against his stench rival Mr. Mohammed Monguno who garnered 153 votes to emerge the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives on Tuesday, June 9, 2015.

A National Assembly official, who was privy to the alleged dialogues aimed at geting Lasun to step down for Gbajabiamila stated, “Members, mostly from the South-West, took part in the discussions.

“They were sent to meet Lasun to explain to him why it was necessary for him to step down for Gbajabiamila.

“The point was made that the zone needed a stronger person to represent the South-West in the leadership.”
