The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Wednesday, August 8, 2018 froze the bank accounts of Akwa Ibom State.
The governor of Akwa Ibom, Udom Emmanuel, and the state’s accountant-general were reportedly shocked by the development.
It came a day after Governor Samuel Ortom raised an alarm that the EFCC has frozen the state’s bank accounts, trapping workers and pensioners’ salaries in a state beset by hardship following months of deadly attacks by suspected herdsmen.
This move, which amounts to dictorship, comes on the same day that the former governor and political rival of the current governor of Akwa Ibom State, Senator Godswill Akpabio joined the APC having dumped the PDP.
