Elon Musk Launches ‘Grokipedia’ to Rival Wikipedia

Must read

SAN FRANSISCO, USA — Elon Musk has launched Grokipedia, a new online encyclopedia developed by his artificial intelligence company, xAI, describing it as an open-source alternative to Wikipedia.

In a series of posts on X, formerly Twitter, on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, Musk said the platform was created to promote accuracy and critical thinking in online knowledge sharing.

The billionaire claimed it would serve as a more balanced and transparent source of information.

Grokipedia version 0.1 is now live,” he wrote.

“The goal of Grok and Grokipedia.com is the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. We will never be perfect, but we shall nonetheless strive towards that goal.”

Musk said the current version of the site was “better than Wikipedia imo,” adding that as Grok — xAI’s flagship chatbot — evolves, so too will Grokipedia.

“As Grok improves, so will Grokipedia. We are embedding the principles of critical thinking and cogency into Grok,” he said.

The launch follows a one-week delay after Musk postponed the rollout originally scheduled for Monday, October 20, 2025.

At the time, he said the extra time was necessary to “do more work to purge out the propaganda.”

“Grokipedia.com is fully open source, so anyone can use it for anything at no cost,” he assured users.

The Tesla and SpaceX chief executive has long criticised Wikipedia, alleging that it is biased and politically influenced.

He has accused the non-profit encyclopedia of being “controlled by far-left activists” and has urged followers to withhold donations.

“Defund Wikipedia until balance is restored,” Musk said in one of his posts.

Since the platform went live, Musk has shared short tutorials on X explaining how users can correct entries and share content from Grokipedia.

The posts include screenshots of the interface, which appears to integrate AI tools for editing and cross-referencing topics.

The entrepreneur’s growing push into digital knowledge and media comes as xAI continues to expand its portfolio beyond conversational AI.

Founded in 2023, the company has positioned itself as a challenger to established AI leaders, including OpenAI and Anthropic.
