The Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido was on Monday, May 11, 2015 given a certificate from the Minister of Education, Ibrahim Shekarau, on behalf of President Goodluck Jonathan as the new Chancellor of the University of Benin (UNIBEN).
Speaking at his palace during the presentation of his formal appointment letter, the Emir of Kano, Alhai Muhammadu Sanusi II mentioned that the days of political wrangling are over and urged all politician in Kano state to embrace peace in the interest of developing and harnessing the resources of the state.
Emir also said, while receiving the chancellorship certificate that it was essential for politicians in Kano state to put all grudges aside for the development and progress adding that no development can be achieved with excessive vendetta.
He stated that everyone is a stake holder in contributing to the development of Kano and urged all politicians to desist from endless confrontations which were impossible of yielding positive results.
On his appointment as the Chancellor of UNIBEN by the president, Sanusi said that the University has received his attention while he held the office of the governor of Central Bank. The monarch said he was the brain behind the construction of the bridge that linked the Ugbowo and Ekehuan campuses of the University together.
The Monarch promised to shoulder the responsibility bequeathed on him with diligence, resoluteness and equanimity. He also said that his appointment was deliberate to propel the University to greater height.
While presenting the letter of appointment to the monarch, minister of education, Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau said that the ministry was ordered by President Jonathan to effect a review of the Chancellorship appointment throughout the federation. He said that the emir was painstakingly selected due to his excellent track record in service.
Shekarau described Emir Sanusi as an epitome of leadership who had the quality to lead by example. He said that the president was convinced that the monarch would bring to the fore his immense wealth of knowledge and experience in discharging his duties as the Chancellor of the University.
