The federal government had on Thursday, November 6, 2014 launched a new 1-6-3-3-4 education policy charging the entire states across the nation to effect the changes accordingly.
The new policy added a one-year pre-primary education into the already existing 6-3-3-4 system.
The ceremony which coincided with the opening ceremony of the 60th National Council on Education holding in Abeokuta, Ogun State also witnessed the endorsement of the national policy on Albinism and its implementation guidelines.
Speaking at the event, the minister of education, Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau maintained that implementing the new policy was paramount being that it is part of the efforts put in place by the present administration to improve the education sector across the nation.
Meanwhile, Ogun State governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun also disclosed that the new policy is a welcomed development from the council aimed at making Nigeria’s education sector better.
He said, “The world over, education has been recognized as the most potent tool and catalyst for socio-economic, political, scientific and technological development.”
