4 Women Arrested For Stealing And Selling Baby In Anambra

Four women have been arrested in connection with an alleged stealing and selling off a 2-month old baby girl in Ogidi, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State.The recovered baby who is currently in the police custody at Ogidi was sold for N625,000.

Police in the area disclosed on Tuesday, February 10, 2015 that three of the suspects stole the baby from her mother in the Nnewi area of the state.

The police source according to Vanguard said that the suspected seller, who was said to be an Enugu-based woman (names withheld), had stolen the baby from her mother and sold her to the buyer who claimed to have resolved to procure a baby girl because she needed a female child that would look after her when she grew old.

The buyer who is currently detained at the Ogidi Police Division said, “I have a male child, but I want a female that will look after me when I become old.”

She further claimed that her husband knew about her plans and encouraged her to go on with it.

The Divisional Police Officer, DPO, in charge of Ogidi Police Station, Mr. Hassan Musa, confirmed the incident.

Musa disclosed further that the force are currently making efforts to reunite the baby with her mother.
