According to Punch, out of the four students that were tested for the disease, the results of three were positive, while the victim was said to have been buried on Friday.

To check the spread of the disease and possible deaths, the state government said it would despatch a team of doctors to Lantang community and place those who came in contact with them, including doctors and Nurses who attended to them at Jos University Teaching Hospital on 21 days surveillance.

The Plateau State health commissioner, Dr. Kamshak Kudeng, confirmed the outbreak of Lassa fever in an interview with the newspaper’s correspondent on Friday, July 7, 2017.

As at mid-February, 2016, the Nigeria Centre for Disease (NCDC) statistics show that reported cases of the haemorrhagic disease — both confirmed and suspected — stood at 175 with a total of 101 deaths since August.

“As at today, 19 (including Abuja) states are currently following up contacts, or have suspected cases with laboratory results pending or laboratory confirmed cases,” the NCDC said in a statement at the time.
