After a Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, Rive State sacked the 22 local government chairmen elected through the controversial last-minute elections organised by former governor Rotimi Amaechi, Governor Nyesom Wike on Wednesday, July 9, 2015 swore in new caretaker chairmen for the local government.

While swearing the caretaker committees in, Governor Wike said he did not sack the evicted council chairmen but waited for the courts to do so because he wanted to follow due process.

He further posited that the caretaker chairmen were inaugurated so that there would be no vacuum in government, urging the new officials to work effectively or be sacked.
