Ex-Militants Threaten Violence Over Buhari’s Delay In Paying Amnesty Allowances

Must read

Former Niger Delta militant leaders on Wednesday, July 9, 2015 raised alarm over several cases of disenchantment and threats to the peace in the region by youths over the delay by President Muhammadu Buhari to offset allowances and tuition fees to beneficiaries of the Amnesty program. The ex-militant leaders, led by Pastor Reuben Wilson, said several complaints had been tabled before  President Buhari over the condition of the amnesty beneficiaries in Europe, America and South Africa but their requests have received no positive response.
Wilson, speaking through a statement issued in Yenogoa, the Bayelsa State capital said the development was bringing uo security issues among the youths, urging the president to look into the goings-on in the Presidential Amnesty Office.

The statement read in part: “Worst of their situation is the unpredictability of when their nightmare will end while hunger and deprivation have put them in a very bad state of mind. Your Excellency, you will recall that this programme had within the last few years brought relative stability to our region and by extension, this country.

“This we owe to late President Umaru Yar’Adua, who in  his wisdom proclaimed amnesty for ex-agitators and drew a plan of action towards ensuring lasting peace in the region through various training programmes.”
