Governor, Babatunde Raji Fashola of Lagos state has declared Friday, November 7, 2014 a public holiday in the state in order that public servants would obtain their Permanent Voters’ Cards ahead of the February 14, 2015 general elections.

According to reports, the governor said the work-free day was expedient because of the importance of the coming elections in the life of the people.

Fashola noted that the registration and processing of permanent voter’s card was the most important electoral process in the upcoming elections.

He also challenged the masses to find time and obtain their voters cards as it is the key and major determinant of a better tomorrow sought by all and sundry adding that a true democracy requires participation.

“The prosperity and the brighter rewarding future that we all seek, for ourselves and our children over the next four years, will be determined by what we do in the next few days.”

“The election is a process, starting from voters’ registration, to balloting, to announcement of results and to election petitions and swearing in of elected persons. The first duty is to register as a voter, to be eligible to vote at the General Elections next year. This means that the process for elections has started,” he said.

He further urged employers in the private sectors of the state to allow their staff participate in the process of registration and collection of the voter’s cards.

“This is the time when we must take that civic duty very seriously by making the sacrifice, by creating the time, by making the effort to ensure that our names are still on the Voters’Register, if we voted or registered at the last election.”
