A group of unknown gunmen have caused a stir at the Uselu Secondary School located in in the Egor Local Government Area of Benin, Edo State as they invaded the premises in a vehicle and kidnapped a teacher identified as Iguodala Chosen.
The gunmen broke into the school around 12:05pm on Thursday, May 28, 2015 and shot indiscriminately into the air which caused both the pupils and teachers to run for safety.
The assailants reportedly stabbed about three of the pupils who attempted to stop them from going away with Chosen who they forced into their car.
The victims were said to have sustained cuts in the chest, head and arm and were rushed to an undisclosed hospital in the state.
At about 2pm however, the school went wild with jubilation as the abducted teacher was seen entering the premises according to Punch.
Chosen said the gunmen told him that he was abducted because of a fight between two students in the school, but was later released by the leader of the group.
He said, “One of them said he was a soldier, so I simply followed him. Then they started hitting me.
“When I asked them what I had done wrong, they said it was because of the fight between two students.
“I told them that the Principal had intervened in the issue. Then they took me to the National Youth Council office at Slope.
“But their chairman pleaded with me not to be annoyed over how I was beaten and later released me.”
Meanwhile, the state police spokesperson, DSP Stephen Onwochei,is yet to confirm the incident.
