Haruna Ibn-Sina, the commandant, Kano State Hisbah Board, said 19 women were arrested over alleged involvement in immoral acts in the state.
Lawal Ibrahim, the command’s public relations officer, confirmed the arrest in a statement in Kano on Wednesday, January 20, 2021, NAN reports.
He said that the suspects were arrested on January 19, at about 9:00p.m in Nassarawa Park and Green Restaurant while engaging in taking intoxicants.
According to him, the arrest was based on directives given by the state government on a fresh ban on the activities of event centres across the state to curtail the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.
“All the 19 suspects are female and aged above 20 years.
“18 of the suspects are first time offenders, while the remaining one had once been arrested,” he said.
However, he said that those that were first offenders have been handed over to their families while the remaining one will be thoroughly advised.
