Not less than 40 shops with spare parts worth millions in Ladipo market were Thursday, May 19, 2016, burnt to rubbles.

The fire was said to have razed the market just few hours after Lagos youths clashed with the traders in the market.

The Nation reports that the fire which started around 1am consumed assorted vehicle parts at the Osoro section of the market in Mushin area of Lagos.

Mr. Rasak Fadipe, the Lagos State Fire Service director, said his men were unable to access due to the clash that happened in the area in the night.

The development, it was learnt, fuelled the fire which ravaged 40 shops in the area.

According to him, his men got a call at 1.20am but for the fight in the area, his officers could not move into the complex at Odushina area of Mushin.

‘‘The divisional police officer at Olosan Police Station, Mushin, led us with his patrol vehicles to the scene before we were able to put out the fire at about 4.46 a.m.

“There were no cases of death or injuries recorded from the inferno.

“My men, however, saw some people with blood all over their bodies, which they suspected were injuries from the fight,“ he said.

Following the clash between Lagos youths and the traders prior to the fire incidents, many Igbos in the market have blamed the fire on the youths, insisting that Lagos youths are plotting against Igbos in the area.
