Jigawa House Of Assembly To Probe 27 Councils

Must read

The Jigawa State House of Assembly has accused 27 local government councils of financial irregularities and has ordered the Public Accounts Committee to investigate the financial activities of the local councils.

This followed a motion moved by the deputy majority leader of the House Bala Gada on Wednesday, August 26, 2020, alleging that the chairmen awarded contracts without due process and expressed the need for the investigation of financial dealings of all the local government councils to ensure prudence in the management of public funds.

Gada said his committee had received complaints from some councils over alleged embezzlement of public funds.

He said the committee then saw the need to widen the scope of the investigation into the rest of the 21 councils as part of the oversight function of the legislature.

Gada who represents Kazaure constituency said the committee would do its best to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the financial activities of the councils to ensure fiscal discipline and accountability in the management of public resources.
