Labour Party House Of Assembly Aspirant, 1 Other Shot Dead In Imo

A political aspirant who vied for the post of the State House of Assembly in Imo State under the platform of the Labour Party, Mr Andrew Ugwuezumba has been shot dead by a group of unknown assailants.

Another man, said to be a businessman based in Abuja who came down to the his homestead and identified as Mr. Bennett Nnaji was also murdered in same manner.

The two incidents occurred in Ngor Okpala Local Government Area of Imo State on Wednesday, April 1, 2015.

The first victim who hails from Umunehi, Obiangwu, area of the state was murdered at Airport Road, while Nnaji, from Umuohiagu, in the same state was killed a few metres to the Airport Junction.

It was learnt that residents have attached the killings to have been politically oriented while a few others opined that it was unconnected with politics.

Vanguard gathered that Ugwuezumba had attended a political meeting at Umuowa, where he addressed party faithful, and was driving back home in his Toyota Sequia sports utility vehicle, SUV, when the hoodlums killed him.

Nnaji was reportedly shot at a very close range according to some of his bereaved relatives who summoned some courage to speak about the incident.

A resident said, “He was driving home when the armed hoodlums gave him a hot chase and shot him several times at close range.”

Meanwhile, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Andrew Enwerem, said the command was yet to get a report in line with the incident.
