A 57-year old man, Anselm Osagie, has been beaten to pulp for allegedly raping a 98-year-old woman said to be his landlord’s mother in Benin, Edo state’s capital.
He was arrested although he denied committing the heinous crime said to have happened on Saturday, January 3, 2015.
The woman was said to have been a constant visitor to his apartment since October 2014.
A co-tenant who probably misinterpreted the story was said to have raised an alarm after he saw the old woman seated on Osagie’s bed while he laid down on the same bed.
Osagie was paraded alongside 43 suspects including a Famous Aibangbe who allegedly raped a 50-year old woman in a bush at Upper Sakponba area of the state.
A man who allegedly posed as a reporter with the Voice of America and Voice of Germany, Yakubu Faroally paraded, Vanguard reports.
He was arrested after allegedly interviewing the head of the Hausa community in Edo.
Confirming the incident, the state Police Commissioner, Foluso Adebanjo, said the suspects would be charged to court soon.
Adebanjo, who is heading to the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, said his two years stewardship saw adequate policing of the state.
