Trade Union For Fitters Protests Exclusion From Dangote’s $14bn Refinery Construction

Must read

The Fitters Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (FISAN), has faulted the deliberate exclusion and non-employment of Nigerian fitters in the ongoing construction of the $14 billion Dangote Oil Refinery, saying it is total violation of the country’s local content Act.

FISAN, in a statement in Warri on Sunday, April 24,2016, by its general secretary, Comrade Pius Idibra, stressed that Nigerian fitters are competent and more qualified than most expatriates already engaged in the construction of the Dangote Refinery, and called on Alhaji Aliko Dangote to ensure Nigerian fitters are employed in the firm.

Idibra lamented the treatment meted out on local filters who, according to him, have the requisite qualification, exposure and background to fit into any job assigned to them in the ongoing construction at the refinery ground.

“We have been informed that no single Nigerian fitter is working there, this wickedness is unacceptable, even when over 200 expatriate fitters have been engaged to the detriment of Nigerian fitters, Alhaji Aliko Dangote should not allow such to prevail.

“Alhaji Aliko Dangote, a prominent Nigerian is building an Oil refinery in Nigeria, a commendable gesture but yet Nigerian fitters who should have been given priority are not engaged in the construction, it is not proper,” the statement said.
