PLATEAU, Nigeria – In a chilling late-night attack, a group of unidentified gunmen stormed the peaceful Kubat Village in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State, leaving a trail of destruction and numerous casualties, including women and children.
The incident took place on Monday, May 15, 2023, as the villagers slept, unaware of the unfolding tragedy.
Governor Simon Lalong confirmed the harrowing event and expressed his deep dismay, describing it as “a sad development.”
In his quest for justice, Governor Lalong has directed the security forces to relentlessly pursue the attackers and ensure their capture.
According to Dr. Makut Simon, Lalong’s Director of Press and Public Affairs, the governor has further instructed the State Emergency Management Agency and the Peace Building Agency to visit the affected area, assess the humanitarian needs, and provide assistance to those impacted by the brutal onslaught.
A thorough investigation is currently underway to uncover the motives behind the attack.
As the village grapples with the devastation, the state police command spokesperson, Alabo Alfred, has yet to provide information on the exact number of casualties.
