Must read

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on Thursday, July 9, 2015 granted former Imo State Governor, Ikedi Ohakim bail to the tune of N270 million for a N270 million fraud case.

Ohakim was brought before the court by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on a 3-count charge which includes making a $2.29m (N270m) cash payment for a property in Asokoro, Abuja in 2008.

Making the judgement, Justice Adeniyi Ademola while ruling on the bail application by Ohakim, told the EFCC to return his passport and other traveling documents previously seized to the the Deputy Chief Registrar of the court.

Prosecuting counsel, Festus Keyamo opposed the bail ruling, arguing that the judge should grant an accelerated hearing if the case instead of granting him bail, but judge held that Ohakim had placed sufficient material before the court to warrant him to be granted bail.
