The National Chairman of National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Alhaji Najeem Usan Yasin, on Thursday said the union has always enjoyed unalloyed support from the Ondo state Governor Dr. Olusegun Mimiko.
The Commercial drivers’ boss dropped this hint at the Union’s 8th Quadrennial Delegates Conference cum Inauguration of new Exco members of Ondo state chapter of the Union held at the International Conference and Event Centre (The Dome ), Akure.
Yasin who revealed that he had to cancel all his appointments to once again meet Governor Mimiko who he said has always been supporting and standing by the Union at all times appreciates the Governor’s gesture in providing Buses, constructing an Ultra Modern Motor Park for the Union and giving the union a sense of belonging in government.
“Today, I said to myself that all assignments must wait for me to be in Ondo state and see the wonderful Governor that has always been doing great things for us and has stood by our union at all times.
All the members of NURTW will always appreciate Governor Mimiko’s commitment and support towards us. Imagine the number of buses he provided for us, there is no programme in Ondo state that he won’t invite us- He even signs the invitation personally by himself. We have sense of belonging in the government, Governor Mimiko is a model of good leadership” Alhaji Yasin said.
Alhaji Yasin further applauds Governor Mimiko’s effort in ensuring rapid response to accident victims describing the program as the first in the country.
“The Emergency Medical service established by Governor Mimiko cannot be seen anywhere in Nigeria, getting help within 15min at any accident scene is a great achievement. We have travelled across the States of Nigeria and have not seen it anywhere.
Each time I come to Ondo state, I always see new things. I have been taken round The Dome we are right now and I can boldly say that no other state in the country can boast of such” He said.
In his response, Governor Mimiko, felicitates with the Union on the inauguration of the new Exco of Ondo state branch of the union and expressed delight in ensuring peaceful transition. He also applauds them for complementing his administration’s effort in engendering an orderly and peaceful society.
” I am particularly delighted to be part of this event and to associate with your Union as your members have realized the fact that a re-orientation away from the ugly past to decent behaviors, devoid of violence should be the guiding principle of their operations.
Therefore, this body must be so recognized and accorded the desired attention and honour as hooliganism, breakdown of law and order, rancour and acrimony amongst the various groups of NURTW have become things of the past” Mimiko said.
Mimiko who affirmed that members of the Union have not been left out of the benevolence of his administration said his government has been able to present 150 buses and 200 mini-cabs to the union where the purchase loans were not only guaranteed but also heavily subsidised the vehicles to make them affordable.
He further said the effort of his administration towards total transformation of transport sector led to the construction of an Ultra Modern Motor Parks and massive roads construction, dualisation and rehabilitation across the state.
Governor Mimiko however charged the new Exco of the Union to be up to responsibilities and tasked them to use their positions responsibly to the greater good of their members and Ondo state at large.
