PDP Crisis: Lagos Party Chairman’s Sack Illegal – State Publicity Secretary

Must read

On Monday, May 11, 2015 in Lagos State, at least 34 out of the 39 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) executives in the state sacked the state party chairman, Chief Tunji Shelle, and announced the appointment of Owolabi Olorunojoe as the new party chairman in the state.

The State Publicity Secretary, Mr. Taofik Gani, who is alleged to be in Shelle’s camp has described the sack as null and void while also calling on party members to disregard the sack.

Mr. Gani in a statement said that the current executive has delivered the best electoral results in the state so far and also faulted “the detractors” mode of operation which according to he statement contravenes the provision of the party’s constitution.

He said: “The State Chairman leading the present state Executive has delivered the best unprecedented electoral result to the party members. It is therefore very irrational for anyone or persons in the party to try to create acrimony by claiming that the State Chairman has not performed to warrant continuing in office.”

“The State Chairman is a member of National Executive Committee (NEC) and can only be removed or suspended by the consent of the NEC. There is no NEC approval to the action. It thus stands, null and void. For the sake of clarity, Shelle remains the legitimate chairman of PDP in the state. All dealings with the party in the state should be through him,” the statement said.
