Katsina: Police Arrest 65-Year-Old Man, His Son, With 2 AK 47 Rifles

The Katsina State Police Command on Sunday, December 15, 2019, in Katsina announced the arrest of 65 year old Harisu Sani,  his son,  Anas Harisu, aged 23 years old, others were Ibrahim Rabi’u, aged 54 years old and Abdulrahaman Harisu, aged 40 years old, all of Dallawa Magaji Wando and Arawa Tumburkai villages of Dandume LGA of Katsina state.

Addressing the press to announce their arrest, the spokesman of the Police Command, Gambo Isa, who stood in for the Police commissioner, CP Sani Buba, said the men were arrested for being in possession of Two AK 47 rifles – prohibited firearms.

He said ’’Gentlemen of the Press, it is my pleasure to welcome you once again to Police Command Headquarters, Katsina to brief you on the recent breakthrough made by the Command in the fight against crime and criminality in the state’’.

‘’Our unwavering commitment to the protection of lives and property of citizens of the state is yielding positive result.

This fit was achieved as a result of robust community policing engagement through the process of dialogue, visibility policing, unrelenting and aggressive counter crime strategies.’’

‘’ I must as well commend the collective effort, support and cooperation of well meaning people in the state to the police’’.

The Spokesman further added that the men of’’ Operation Puff Adder’’, led by O/C SARS Katsina swiftly swung into action following a tip off and mobilized to the location and arrested the above named suspects.

He said’’ In the course of investigation, the suspects confessed to the crime and led policemen to the scene where two AK 47 rifles with breech numbers 406071 and 1413174 D60 were recovered’’

‘’ Suspects confessed to have seized the firearms from suspected bandits that attacked their villages sometimes in the month of December, 2018 but refused to hand over the seized weapons to the police. Investigation is ongoing’’.

When interviewed, the leader of the gang, 65 year old Harisu Sani, told The Nation that they were ignorant of the law on fire arms and pleaded for forgiveness. He said they had kept the guns though without bullets, for self-protection.
