The Imo State Police Command has paraded over 30 suspects at the command headquarters in Owerri for their alleged involvement in various degrees of criminal activities ranging from armed robbery, kidnapping, car snatching, gun running and cultism.

The Police Commissioner, Mohammed Musa Katsina, said that the arrest of the suspects was a result of the “Operation Merry Christmas” that was launched earlier in December 2013 for Imo citizens at home and coming from abroad.

“Operation Merry Christmas” was set up to ensure a crime free yuletide season especially in the area of kidnapping, armed robbery and car snatching.

Among those arrested was Daniel Meshack, 27, a staff of Diamond Bank in a branch in Owerri. Meshack allegedly collaborated with his armed robbery gang to attack and rob a customer of millions of Naira.

Katsina said: “Meshack was arrested after aggressive confrontation with the police when they tried to escape after they successfully robbed their victim around Nekede area of Owerri.”

Meanwhile, while on interrogation, the suspect disclosed that he masterminded the attack and gave his gang all the vital information that aided the operation. Some other suspects arrested also disclosed their level of involvement in the allegations.
