Officials of the Abia State Police Command have uncovered a large storage of live ammunition from Nkata Primary School located in Umuahia, capital of Abia State.
The command revealed that they were able to make the shocking discovery following a tip off by a teacher whose identity was not mentioned.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Ezekiel Onyeke, said pupils discovered the ammunition on the school’s playground, according to reports.
He said, “The EOD team exhumed 1,233 of 7.62mm. (Long) live ammunition from the dump. The police are still combing the environment to ensure that the area is cleared of arms and ammunition or other explosives.”
It is uncertain whether any culprit has been arrested in connection with the discovery, although the police image maker further assured that an ongoing investigation has been launched into the case.
