President Goodluck Jonathan on Monday, March, 16, 2015 held a closed door meeting with the former Vice President Atiku Abubakar in Yola, Adamawa State after storming his residence few minutes before midnight.
It was learnt in Abuja on Tuesday, March 17, 2015 that President Jonathan was accompanied by some of his security details and aides, for the August visit.
According to Punch the president arrived at the former VP’s residence at a time he (Abubakar) had already retired for the day.
At first, the security team consisting the policemen and private guards were curious when they saw the long convoy of vehicles from the presidential fleet but were later said to have recognized some of the team members before they saw the vehicle conveying the president.
President Jonathan’s advance party confirmed that Abubakar was at home and relayed their findings to the President before he set out for the meeting.
It was somewhat difficult for the Abubakar’s team to wake him up but one of his close relatives took up the task and successfully got him up.
It was gathered from an anonymous member of the Abubakar team that after an exchange of pleasantries, the pair immediately went into a private meeting.
The source said, “The Turakin Adamawa was surprised by the visit largely due to the fact that, one, he was not expecting it.
“Two, long before Vice President Atiku left the PDP finally, the President had asked for audience with him in his Asokoro residence, in Abuja, prompting him to cancel all engagements only for the President to stand him up without even the courtesy of an explanation or an apology.
“This time around, the President chose to make it a surprise visit. Well, from what transpired it is glaring that Atiku is not buying any of Jonathan’s explanations or proposals.
