BOLARI, Nigeria – During the passing-out ceremony of 274 National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, members in Gombe State, it was disclosed that two Batch B Stream II corps members have been handed service extensions for various offenses, while one corps member tragically lost her life during childbirth.
The Gombe State NYSC Coordinator, Dawut Jidda, announced this information at the NYSC local government office in Bolari on Thursday, June 22, 2023.
He explained that the two corps members who faced service extensions were penalized after appearing before the Corps Disciplinary Committee.
In a somber note, Mr. Jidda also shared that one female corps member had died during childbirth.
On a more positive note, the state coordinator commended the efforts of the 274 corps members for their contributions in Community Development Service.
He expressed gratitude to those who had dedicated their time and energy to make a positive impact in their host communities.
Furthermore, Mr. Jidda encouraged the corps members to embrace the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development Programme in order to become entrepreneurs and create employment opportunities.
Jidda stated, “The era of white-collar jobs is far gone. Your tomorrow lies in your hands. Remember, the effort you will put into achieving your dreams is entirely your responsibility. The time to start is now.”
Addressing another group of corps members at the Federal Secretariat from other Local Government Areas in Gombe State, Mr. Jidda urged them to avoid night journeys and refrain from engaging in social vices.
He encouraged the youth to be active contributors to the nation’s development and to foster unity among themselves.
“We await good news about youth progress soon. It is your responsibility to play your part in developing this Country. It starts with us first seeing ourselves as brothers and sisters and doing away with differences and stereotypes,” he added.
